Following ponyclub camp at the start of July Monaghan Pony club members embarked on a busy schedule of summer activities

Showjumping: at the area 7 festival at Cavan in late July two Monaghan Teams competed in the Robbie Bailie qualifier.

The team of Paul McPhillips Cliondha McArdle Gemma Treanor and Ciara Woods tied for 1st place and went on to compete

at the championships in Wexford. Our team of  Michaela Donnelly Adam and Ella Garland and Avril Mackeral finished in

4th place after a nailbiting second round.

Cliona Todd came 3rd in the 1.10m classic showjumping and 4th in the 1.20m. Cliona and fellow member Catherine McNally

were placed 3rd and 2nd respectively in the senior individual showjumping.

Combined Training:Catherine McNally won the open competition and thus qualified to compete at RDS Dublin Horse Show.

This is Catherine’s second time qualifying for Dublin. Catherine also achieved more recent success achieving her H and A ponyclub tests

which are the pinnacle of ponyclub achievement. At under 12 level Seanie Donnelly was 1st, Rhiann Shields 3rd and Mark McPhillips 5th.

This was a wonderful achievement for these young members. No doubt we will see them in the winning enclosure in the future.

At combined training junior level Michaela Donnelly finished in 6th place.

Pony games Monaghan club qualified yet again for Dublin Horse Show with Niall and Marie-Louise Hughes, Eoin Reavy, Joshua Rowe

and Shauna Donohoe. This involved a huge commitment by parents, children and team trainer Noel Cunningham travelling to the qualifiers

in various locations including Cork and Galway. Thankyou to all the members who gave a wonderful display of pony games at Tydavnet show.

Eventing:A number of members competed on the eventing circuit from June to August. Cliondha McArdle was 1st in the under 12’s at Longford.

Catherine McNally qualified for the open eventing finals and Michaela Donnelly, Gemma Treanor and Ciara Woods qualified for the junior eventing

finals at Tattersals in August. These 3 juniors competed as a team and all were clear at showjumping and cross country with

Michaela achieving 1st place and Ciara 6th place leaving them 7th in the team placings out of a field of 50 teams.

This was without a 4th team member – well done Monaghan girls!

Tetrathalon:Kate Madden from Clones represented the Irish pony club as a member of the Senior Irish Tetrathalon team

which came second in Yorkshire in August – Kate and her brother Louis represented Monaghan pony club in Limerick

during August where they gained individual placings. Louis came second in the junior boy tetrathalon and Kate came 8th in the senior girls.

This sport requires skills and fitness in equestrianism, swimming, running and shooting.

While the Monaghan Branch of the Irish Pony Club maybe relatively small members are successfully representing their club and in some cases their country at a high level.

At present our activities are continuing with riding and road safety lessons at Cloncaw Equestrian centre in Glaslough.

Our AGM will be held during the first week of November in the Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan. Please come along. New members are always welcome.

Easter Camp 2011

“A wonderful camp”,” the best ever”. These were some of the comments on Thursday evening last as tired

PC members loaded their ponies after a packed and energetic few days at Cloncaw Equestrian Centre.

What we lacked in quantity we certainly made up in quality. The D+ group worked so hard that they were

able to do their test on Wed-a day early! We are happy to report that all 9 members passed with flying

colours. Thank you, Geraldine, for your guidance and expert tuition.

On Thursday the same group had a mini ODE. Dressed to perfection they began the day with a dressage test

performed in silence. This was followed with SJ on grass. Thank you to our two score keepers,

Seanie and Ryan. Lastly they braved a course of XC jumps. Thank you to the parents who acted as fence

stewards. Just in case they had any energy left we ran a treasure hunt at lunchtime.

The Senior group were under Orlas watchful eye. They began with a lesson on lungeing which some

parents/grandparents found particularly interesting. Each member had a” go” while another rode minus reins.

Various lessons followed rapidly, SJ, Equitation jumping and of course XC.

Usually it is members who fall in the water but I saw a very wet instructor dismounting at one stage.

The less said the better! Katie will remember both her first PC camp and her 15th birthday.

Did you fall or were you pushed? Thank you, Orla.

A sincere thank you to all parents, members, instructors and the Bellew family, who helped to make camp

such a success. Four members have already booked for Summer.

9 passed D+ test at Easter Camp 2011

We had a busy July 09 with rallies held at Cloncaw Equestrian Center, Castle Leslie Estate,

McArdles, Emyvale and regular games rallies at Hughes, Tyholland.

. Our four day Summer Camp was held at Cloncaw Equstrian Center, Glaslough with  five instructors,

Louise, Jo, Geraldine, Orla and Rosemary.

Many committee members were  also busy organising our One Day Event (Horse Trial).

At 9.00 am on Sunday morning July 19th, 2009  five dressage arenas were in use around the

Cloncaw farm, two show jumping areans had to be  kept on the go to finish up in time to begin

the cross country section.  Where competitors obtain  a clear cross country and clear at showjumping,

then all is down to their dressage score(lowest  result is best).

Many thanks to our hard working committee who organised the many helpers. It was great to

see so many none competing family members helping out on the day.  Our appreciation to

everyone who helped us out on the day.
